Scratching Massage in Wichita, KS
Half essential-oil massage on your back, half slow scratching across the back, arms and scalp. 40 minutes for $70, 80 for $120. At 10646 W Central Ave, seven days a week.
Forty minutes for $70, or eighty for $120. Either way the first half is an essential-oil massage on your back and the second half is someone scratching it — slowly, evenly, out along the arms and up into the scalp. We're at 10646 W Central Ave #106 in west Wichita, just west of Maize Rd, and this is the one thing on our menu you can't book anywhere else in the city.
What is a scratching massage?
One session in two equal halves, at whichever of the two lengths you book. The first half is a massage in the ordinary sense. The second half is the part people book it for, and there's nothing else on our menu that resembles it.
The first half: oil on the back
Warm oil, broad strokes down either side of the spine, then slower work into whatever's tight across the shoulder blades and the base of the neck. If you've had a table massage before, nothing here will surprise you. The point of this half is to get the back warm and the shoulders down off your ears before anyone touches you lightly, because light touch on a guarded back doesn't land.
The second half: the scratching
Fingertips and nails, moving slowly and returning to the same patch of skin over and over before the hands drift somewhere else. Back first, then out across the shoulders and down the arms, then the scalp. There's no pressure to speak of and nothing is being worked on. What changes is the pace: everything stays slow enough that your skin stops reading it as new information, which is roughly the point at which most people stop talking.
Why twenty or forty minutes of that does anything at all is a longer conversation about what light, repetitive touch does to the nervous system, and we've put it in a separate piece — the science of slow scratching.
How much is the scratching massage in Wichita?
$70 for 40 minutes, $120 for 80. The longer booking doesn't change what happens — it buys 20 more minutes of the oil work and 20 more of the scratching. If you've never had one, the short version is the cheaper way to find out whether the second half does anything for you.
Scratching Massage
Half the session is an essential-oil back massage, half is slow, rhythmic scratching across the back, arms and scalp. Nobody else in Wichita publishes anything like it. People either book it once out of curiosity or book nothing else afterwards.
- 20 min essential-oil back massage, 20 min scratching · 40 min $70
- 40 min essential-oil back massage, 40 min scratching · 80 min $120
Both lengths mirror our Square booking page exactly. Aromatherapy adds $10, Himalayan salt stone $20, cupping $20.

The upgrade that fits this booking is aromatherapy at $10 — scented oil running through the session rather than plain oil for the first half. Salt stone ($20) and cupping ($20) can be added too, though cupping sits oddly next to a stretch of light touch. None of the three is bookable on its own.
Who books it?
Three sorts, roughly, and most of them didn't plan it.
People who can't switch their heads off
Deep pressure gives you something to concentrate on. Forty minutes of slow scratching hands you nothing to hold onto, and for a certain kind of person that's the difference between lying on a table and going somewhere else entirely. If you book a massage and then spend the hour composing tomorrow's to-do list, try this one.
Anyone who's asked someone to scratch their back
And got about ten seconds of it before they got bored. That's the entire pitch. Forty minutes is roughly two hundred and forty times longer than the version you get at home, and it's performed by someone whose arm isn't going to give out.
People who thought it sounded strange
A good share of the bookings are curiosity — someone reads the menu, laughs, books it anyway. Plenty of those come back and book nothing else. If you're coming off a ten-hour shift with your shoulders locked up, the oil half is still doing ordinary massage work, and our shift-recovery guide covers that side of it properly.
How the session runs
-
Tell us where not to go
Sore spots and pressure for the first half, and for the second half anything we should stay off — a healing tattoo, a patch of eczema, a scalp you'd rather we skipped, hair you don't want touched. Thirty seconds of this saves the whole session. -
The first half: oil work on the back
Face down, under a sheet, back and shoulders uncovered. Broad and warming first, then firmer into whatever's tight. Ask for more or less pressure while it's happening. -
The second half: scratching
The hands get lighter and stay light. Back, shoulders, arms, scalp, and back again in no fixed order. Nobody minds if you fall asleep — most people do. -
Sit up slowly
This one leaves people foggier than a normal massage does. Give it a couple of minutes and drink some water before you pull back out onto Central.
Does anyone else in Wichita do this?
Not that we can find. Of the 8 Wichita studios publishing a price list we could read in September 2026, not one has a line for anything like it — not the two national chains up on N Maize Rd, not the day spas, not the other independents. Another 6 studios publish no prices at all, so there's no telling what's on their menus; you'd have to ring and ask.
It's a hard thing to sell in a one-line listing, which is probably part of why it's rare in Kansas. Ours sits on the services page with everything else, at the same price the booking flow will quote you.
Is it safe, and who should skip it?
For most healthy people it's about as low-risk as bodywork gets — there's no deep pressure and no joint work in the second half. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health puts it plainly: the risk of harmful effects from massage therapy appears to be low. NCCIH also lists massage among the mind and body practices studied for stress and relaxation, and Mayo Clinic describes relaxation techniques as a way to lower stress and ease tense muscles.
